All poems are my own unless attributed to another poet or source for comments. The poems were not written based on the individual painting or vice versa. To interpret a poem visually through my artwork would be an illustration and not a painting that stands on its own.

My paintings are visual poems in their own right and speak for themselves—critics notwithstanding. The pairing of poem to painting, while arbitrary, expresses similar or contrasting statements.

Cutting Down

I slash and scrape
to get at the heart.

Cutting down, deep down
to reveal the inner beauty.

Cutting away like Michelangelo
on a mountain of marble.

Cutting down, deep down
to reveal the inner mystery.
